Ranking the conferences

Part of the 16 team tournament I'd suggest for football includes ranking the conferences, a ranking that should be based on a four year cycle of inter-conference play including bowl games contributing to the ranking. Pittsburgh vs Utah in the Fiesta Bowl and Boise State vs Oklahoma in the same Bowl suggests in part that long held beliefs about some of the conferences may not be quite as accurate as sports writers on the East coast may want to believe.

Here's what I think should happen based upon a tournament draw that reflects conference strength and difficulty - from my perspective. I readily admit that I think some of the Eastern conferences are a bit over rated while some of the western conferences struggle because of media isolation.

I'd suggest that a four year record for interconference play including bowl games be maintained to help with "ranking" the conferences.

Get the discussion rolling - it's time for a real playoff.

Cheers,

Upsets - like that's new

West Virginia - gone
Missouri - gone
Hawaii - losing 14-0 after 5 minutes and Colt Brennan is injured.

Georgia should not be allowed into the championship game when they haven't won their league. Don't you wish you were a voter?

Championship Saturday

Hawaii is undefeated from the same division that gave us Boise State and the most exciting college bowl game of the Dec 06- Jan -07 bowl season and a win tonight puts them in the BCS for sure. Unfortunate that the west doesn't seem to get the same media respect, primarily because it doesn't get the same coverage based upon the sheer number of newspapers.
